John Bandler

Adjunct Professor John Bandler is a lawyer, consultant, author, teacher, and speaker who helps organizations and individuals navigate today's risks. His areas of expertise include cybersecurity, cybercrime prevention and investigation, traditional crime, anti-money laundering, anti-fraud, criminal justice and privacy.

Professor Bandler teaches about law as it intersects with cybercrime and cybersecurity. This includes the investigation and prosecution of cybercrime, legal and regulatory requirements relating to cybersecurity, and the lawyer’s duty regarding cybersecurity. He also teaches at Pace University's Seidenberg School of CSIS (Computer Science and Information Systems) about cyberlaw and information systems.

Professor Bandler also runs a law firm and consulting practice focusing on cybersecurity, cybercrime prevention and investigation, privacy and more. Before joining the private sector, he served in government for over 20 years, first as a state trooper in the New York State Police, where he gained a broad array of policing experience at one of the state's busiest stations where the State Police were the community's primary police agency. He also served as a commissioned officer in the New York Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve.

Professor Bandler attended law school at night and then served for 13 years as a prosecutor at the New York County District Attorney's Office, where he investigated and prosecuted all manners of criminal conduct including street crime, financial fraud, identity theft, money laundering, cybercrime, and the criminal use of virtual currencies. During the successful investigation and prosecution of an international cybercrime ring, which convicted U.S. based identity thieves as well as international cybercriminals, he gained unique insights into cybercrime, identity theft, payments, and the many investigation and proof issues that arise.

Professor Bandler graduated cum laude from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in 2002, where he was a Case Note and Comment Editor of the Pace Law Review and participated in the Prosecutorial Externship Program. He also holds a BA from Hamilton College, with a major in physics and a minor in computer science.

He is the author of three books, numerous articles, and is a frequent speaker.
